Creating A Treasure For The Adopted Child
Beth O'Malley, Owner and Author. Beth was adopted as an infant which fuels her passion for lifebooks. I have read Beth's book and would recommend it to anyone. It is very, very appropriate for both international and domestic adoptions AND for those children in the foster care system. All adopted children need a lifebook - it is something they can hold in their hand and say 'THIS is MY story and part of who I AM'. If you do not have this book, please take the time to check out Beth's website and order it. The book is extremely well written - very easy to read and very informative! You can learn what a lifebook is all about, you can learn really great ways to explain adoption and you can learn exactly how to give your child something very valuable - all simply by reading Beth's book.

Amazing Grace Elephant Co. LTD is located in Hong Kong as has many, many beautiful things for sale at very reasonable prices. Omni Resources
Omni Resources - I cannot say enough good things about the China maps I have purchased from Omni Resources - nor can I say enough good things about their customer service. Omni has a complete line of worldwide maps, including China provincial maps which are clearly superb (city summaries and pictures on the back; a quite detailed map on the front - showing points of interest in the province, railways, highways, many small towns, etc.) And there is one more wonderful thing about these maps - MANY ARE PRINTED IN ENGLISH! I am very, very pleased with the many maps I have. They are extremely helpful to me - teaching me China's geography as I organize Asia Threads projects. Please go have a look at their web site, as sample maps are shown there. I don't believe you will be disappointed should you choose to purchase one (or several) of the them..
 
Red Thread Maps
Red Thread Maps: Scrapbook/Lifebook Alert - This company provides maps of provinces in China that designate the orphanages in a particular province. Several different sizes - INCLUDING LIFEBOOK SIZED MAPS THAT CAN BE PERSONALIZED - yes, small maps! Hendrika Martin, owner and artist, has done a terrific job creating these maps and they are just absolutely wonderful. The maps show the children where they were from and the unseen 'connections' they have to others. HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. (Please also see Hendricka's affiliate stores, Henimage and Adoptshop (both also HIGHLY RECOMMENDED).

Liberty House Company: If you take the time (well worth the time) to browse through the enormous amount of resources offered by this company, you may be pleasantly surprised at what you find. Bilingual bible story books and videos, Bilingual bibles, folklore, culture, operas, dance, games children play in China, Children's Activity books, teaching materials, VCDs, DVDs, Videos, listing of Chinese Schools in the U.S. - I could go on and on as there is too much to mention here. Part of the Mission Statement from the owners at Liberty House is "to prevent children from loosing their roots in Chinese culture". This company really offers a lot. www.bestchinashop.com or www.chinesetapes.com (both sites are the same). UPDATE: July 27, 2003 -- I have recently purchased the Gold and Honey Children's Bible (bilingual), The Art of Chinese Dance video (traditional dances performed by the World-touring Dance Company, Nai-Ni Chen--and it includes dance step instructions!), and a few books. I was extremely pleased with the service Liberty House provided and the quality of the items I purchased. The Gold and Honey Bible (beautifully illustrated) is just a wonderful thing for our daughter to have (and share!!) and my entire family is facinated with the Dance Video.
